The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a major prize-giving event approaches, there’s always a clamor to include fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the hearts of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match award groups including Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another creative title missed out during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game got ignored that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often small games, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers function at the challenging frontier of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Just like cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
